A blog about manure management written by a third-generation Wisconsin family farmer debuted last week.

“Livestock to Land and everything in between” aims to grow conversation among farms about manure management, nutrient plans and other ways to keep farms and Wisconsin’s waters healthy, says Carly Darrow, the blog’s author and a communication specialist for the Department of Natural Resources.

“I’m a farmer’s daughter, a fisherman’s wife and a supporter of keeping Wisconsin’s farms healthy and our land and water clean for the future,” says Darrow, who grew up near Belleville and continues to help out on the family farm.

“Livestock to Land and everything in between” will explore topics from manure management to what is happening in Wisconsin’s lakes and streams, Darrow says. “Together, we’ll break it down to the basics. We’ll talk about livestock, manure storage, application, nutrient management and all the fantastic agricultural resources available to farmers to help them keep their land healthy and nearby lakes, streams and drinking water clean.”

Find the blog by visiting dnr.wi.gov, and search keyword, “nonpoint.”

“The idea of this blog is to have engaging conversations, so “spread” the word and follow along with me on this blogging journey from livestock to land and everything in between,” Darrow says.
