Christmas Comes to the State Capitol With Tree and Ornament
The Capitol is a busy place this time of year n not only for legislators, but for visitors as well.
On Dec. 4 the Capitol Tee lighting ceremony took place and the tree will be on display in the rotunda throughout the month of December. Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekends and holidays.
A number of musical groups will perform throughout the month so, depending on when you visit, a musical treat may be in order.
Commemorative ornament
The sixth annual Wisconsin State Capitol Commemorative Ornament is available at specialty gift stores. (In Madison, they can be found at Johannsen’s on the Beltline, Orange Tree on Monroe Street and ‘Tis the Season in Middleton.)
This commemorative ornament is also available at the Wisconsin State Historical Society Museum on the square where the price of the ornament remains at $16. For ordering information call 888-999-1669.
This year’s limited edition ornament features the exterior of the white granite capitol captured in springtime when it is adorned in blankets of colorful tulips.
Cate Zeuske, former secretary of the Department of Revenue, her husband, former Assembly Speaker John Gard, and their family donate all the work leading to the production of the ornament (it’s made in the U.S.A.) n and then they deliver it to the stores.
All the proceeds from the sale of the ornaments are donated to the Wisconsin State Capitol Restoration Fund.
