Farm Bureau Annual Meeting Features New Look, Location

Thursday, November 6, 2008 1:51 PM CST

The Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation’s 89th Annual Meeting will have a decidedly new look and feel this Dec. 6-8.

“You could say we’ve broken the mold of what our members have come to expect at the Annual Meeting,” said Bill Bruins, WFBF president.

Not only will the event’s location switch from Madison to the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells, but the entire event will follow a new schedule and format.

Another noticeable difference will be the addition of big name entertainment to kick off the event. Country singer Michael Martin Murphey will perform at Saturday’s Farm Bureau Extravaganza. Murphey, a singing cowboy and Farm Bureau member best known for his hit “Wildfire” released a string of country hits in the 1970s and 80s, and remains a popular touring act. He will take the stage at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6.

“We want to especially thank Greenstone Farm Credit Services and United FCS for their financial support for this performance,” Bruins said. “Our Annual Meeting brings together multiple generations of farm families and it’s great that these businesses see the importance of cultivating the next generation of agricultural leaders.”

The Annual Meeting will now coincide with the Young Farmer Conference taking place Friday, Dec. 5 through Sunday, Dec. 7 at the Kalahari.

“By holding the Young Farmer Conference just prior to the WFBF Annual Meeting, we hope to expose more of our young members to the variety of Farm Bureau programs and services available to them,” Bruins said. “Additionally, this new location will be easily accessible from all directions, and provides a variety of family-friendly activities.”

Communication between the generations and farm transition issues will be a common theme at both events. Serving as the keynote speaker throughout the weekend will be nationally renowned agribusiness professor, Dr. Ron Hansen. He will discuss the business and communication issues at play when more than one generation is running a family farm.

The Young Farm Conference registration fee also covers admission to the WFBF Annual Meeting.
