Canadian Cow Deemed Supreme, Five-Time Expo Champion is Reserve

Thrulane James Rose, the grand champion Holstein, was named Supreme Champion of World Dairy Expo on Saturday. She was exhibited by Pierre Boulet of Montmagny, Quebec, Canada. Old Mill E Snickerdoodle OCS, exhibited by Allen Bassler, Jr., of Upperville, Va., was named Reserve Supreme Champion.   


World Dairy Expo 2008 celebrated the 42nd anniversary of the show and the return of Canadian cattle to the North American competition last week. More than 2,600 animals paraded on the colored shavings, shown by 890 exhibitors from 37 states and seven Canadian provinces.

Show attendance was up to 68,317, including 2,884 international guests from 84 countries. Canada, Mexico, Netherlands, United Kingdom and Germany had the foreign attendees.

Additionally, there were 724 commercial exhibitors representing 23 countries. Winning the commercial booth awards were: large booth, Accelerated Genetics; medium booth, Cooperative Resources International; and small booth, Dinamica Generale SRL.

Thrulane James Rose, an Excellent-97 point cow from Quebec, Canada was named World Dairy Expo’s Supreme Champion. Exhibited by Pierre Boulet of Montmagny, the seven-year-old is sired by Shoremar James and her dam is Thrulane Roxy Lee.

  

Since 1993, Pierre Boulet has owned 98 All-Canadian and All-American nominees. He has won Premier Exhibitor several times at the Quebec International Show and Quebec Spring Show. Rose was previously named Grand Champion and Supreme Champion at the 2008 Expo Quebec.

Reserve Supreme Champion of the show was Old Mill E Snickerdoodle OCS, bred and exhibited by Allen Bassler, Jr. of Upperville, Va. Scored Excellent-94 with an Excellent-97 point mammary system, the 10-year-old show veteran is a seven-time class winner, five-time World Dairy Expo Champion, and was named Supreme Champion in 2003.
  

She is a six-time All-American and was also named All Time All-American as a 2-, 4- and 5-year old. Snickerdoodle has 60 registered offspring in the U.S. with five nominated All-American and one named All-American. Fourteen sons are currently being sampled in the A.I. industry and nine of her son’s daughters have been nominated All-American. Sired by Victory Acres Jubilation, her dam is Old Mill E Cookie.

It was an emotional evening for Stephanie Aves of Popular Grove, Ill., as her winning senior-two-year-old, Scenic-Edge Joyful-Red-ET garnered supreme honors of the junior show at World Dairy Expo. BouMatic presented a $1,000 check to the winning duo. Aves and Joyful are no strangers to the colored shavings as the pair was name junior champion of the Grand International Junior Red & White show in 2006. The Pursuit September Storm daughter has already been a class winner in 2008 at the Premier National Junior Show and the All-American Red & White show and was also Intermediate Champion of the Grand International Red & White Open Show.

Reserve Junior Supreme Champion honors went to R & S Vances Joan exhibited by Garrett Rucks of Okeechobee, Fla. Joan was the winning six-year-old & older cow of the Central National Junior Brown Swiss Show. The Buckeye Knoll Presto Vance is Excellent-93 with a 94 point mammary system.

Ayrshire

The Central National Ayrshire Show was held at World Dairy Expo on Sept. 30. Repeating their 2005 performance, Valevue Bbk Minerva and Val D'estrie Special K Lolly were named grand and reserve grand champion respectively. Minerva, exhibited by Wayne and Donna Lexvold, and Stillmore Cattle Co, Pine Island, Minn., and Lolly, exhibited by Heather Morrell, Cochranton, Penn., were first and second place winners in the six-year-old & over class.

Intermediate champion was Blind Buck Vall Tri Redpepper, exhibited by Roger and Jackie Greeno of Argyle, N.Y. Edgebrook Special K Alamode was named reserve intermediate champion. She was exhibited by Mike and Brenda Dilly and Andy Tow of Montour, Iowa.

Junior champion honors went to Daltondale Tuxedo Rosa, exhibited by Mckenzie Stanford of Cushing, Okla. Bonnie Brae Karli was named reserve junior champion. She was exhibited by Mike and Julie Hemp and Steve McDonald of Princeton, Ill.

Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor banners were awarded to Palmyra Farm, of Hagerstown, Md. Premier sire was Blackaddar BB Kellogg.

Judge Steve White of New Castle, Ind., placed a total of 231 entries.

Sara Pulver of Argyle, N.Y., exhibited the Grand Champion of the Central National Junior Ayrshire Show. The champion cow, Blind Buck Vall Tri Redpepper, placed first in the senior two-year-old class. Reserve Grand Champion honors were earned by the winning senior three-year-old cow, Royale-Divide Wilton Special shown by Mckenzie Stanford of Cushing, Okla.

Junior champion of the junior show was Daltondale Tuxedo Rosa, exhibited by Mckenzie Stanford of Cushing, Okla. Michael Maier and Kevin Gross of Stitzer exhibited the reserve junior champion of the junior show. She was Michaels Burdette Teardrop.

Judge Steve White of New Castle, Ind., placed a total of 83 entries.

Brown Swiss

Old Mill E Snickerdoodle OCS, exhibited by Allen Bassler, Jr. of Upperville, Va., was named grand champion of the Central National Brown Swiss Show on Oct. 2. Reserve champion of the show was a senior three-year-old, Ja Ka Hillary Hillbilly, exhibited by Rob and Pat Donaldson of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada.

Intermediate champion honors went to Ja Ka Hillary Hillbilly, exhibited by Rob and Pat Donaldson of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. Reserve intermediate champion was Brothers Three Worthy OCS-ET, exhibited by Topp-View and Brothers Three of Botkins, Ohio.

Junior champion was Moore-Stream KR Shelia, exhibited by Rodney and Brianne Willson of Lee Center, N.Y. Sunnyisle Legacy Thyme-ET was reserve junior champion. She was exhibited by Peter Vail and Ken Main of Valatie, N.Y.

Garrett Rucks of Okeechobee, Fla., was on the halter of R & S Vances Joan, the winning six-year-old and older cow, that was tapped for grand champion honors of the Central National Junior Brown Swiss Show, held Oct. 2. Jill Cowles winning junior three-year-old, Daveco Manly Heather, earned reserve grand champion honors.

Junior champion of the junior show went to Mill Wheel Pre Ferrari-ET, exhibited by Kelly Lee, Johnson Creek. Hoodstead Victor Pippie was named reserve junior champion of the junior show. She was exhibited by Nicole Hood of Middletown, Md.

The Premier Breeder banner was presented to Blessing Farms of Fort Wayne, Ind. Peter Vail and Ken Main of Valatie, N.Y., won the Premier Exhibitor Banner and Premier Sire of the show was Top Acres Jet Pilot-ET.

Wayne Sliker of St.Paris, Ohio, served as the official judge and was assisted by associate judge, Jeremy McDonald of Middletown, Virginia. They placed a total 298 head.

Guernsey

Four Winds Destiny Child, owned by Clark & Joy Vilter, Hartland, was named grand champion at the National Guernsey Show n Madison on Friday, Oct. 3. Reserve grand champion honors went to Guernsey Dell Tiller Heart, exhibited by P. Morey Miller & Kelsey Jurgilewicz of Granby, Conn.

Intermediate champion was Stockwell Farms Reward, Hailey, exhibited by Tyler, Paige and Justin Chupp, Inola, Okla. Reserve intermediate champion was Land Of Living JT Rockette, exhibited by John D. Ayars and sons, Mechanicsburg, Ohio.

Omalley Hillpoint Skip Classy-ET, the winning spring yearling was tapped for junior champion honors. She is owned by Four Winds & City Slickers, Hartland. The reserve junior champion was claimed by Dairy O Showtime Sienna, owned by Lisa Zweegman Erickson, Lynden, Wash.

Prairie Cream Tiller Abigail-ET, the winning three-year-old cow owned by Kimberly & Kevin Lakey of Trempealeau, captured the title of grand champion of the National Junior Guernsey Show - Madison. Reserve grand champion honors went to Villa Crest Wynn Riona, exhibited by Marlys Weaver of Goshen, Ind.

Junior champion of the junior show was Hershys Spider Chloe Sweeti, exhibited by A. Dietz of Southington, Ohio. Prairie Cream Magicman Alyah-ET, exhibited by Kimberly and Kevin Lakey of Trempeleau, was named reserve junior champion of the junior show.

Premier Breeder and Exhibitor went to Clark and Joy Vilter of Four Winds Farm, Hartland. Premier Sire was Trotacre Loral Tiller.

Judge Carrie Chickering-Sears of South Deerfield, Mass., along with Associate Judge Jeff Ziegler of Ostrander, Ohio placed 212 entries.

Holstein

After nine years, a Canadian cow has once again been named grand champion of the International Holstein Show. Pierre Boulet from Montmagny, Quebec, led Thrulane James Rose to grand champion honors. It was also eventful for Quality-Ridge Stormi Hazel as she was tapped as the reserve grand champion. She was exhibited by The Hazel Syndicate of Preston, CT.

Intermediate champion was Blondin Lyster Beauty, exhibited by David & Jeremy Hoese, Glencoe, Minn. Reserve intermediate champion honors went to Brookvilla Jasper Aka, exhibited by Jim & Jeff Butler, Chebanse, Ill.

Junior champion was Long-haven Gold Rochelle-ET, exhibited by Budjon Farms, Joel Kietzman & Barclay Phoenix, of Lomira. Reserve junior champion was Lacoulee Justine Goldwyn, exhibited by Morsan Farms Ltd., Ponoka, Alberta, Canada

Pierre Boulet’s winning ways continued as he was also named Premier Exhibitor of the show. For the second year in a row, Elegance Futures, the partnership of Budjon Farms and Joel Kietzman, was named the Premier Breeder. Braedale Goldwyn was name Premier Sire of the show, ending Regancrest Elton Durham’s five year run.

Judges Brian Carscadden of Guelph, Ontario and Adam Liddle of Argyle, N.Y., placed 512 animals during the two day show.

Junior Holstein

The International Junior Holstein Show was held on Monday, Sept. 30. Champion honors of the show were awarded to Logsdons Durham Cher, the winning five-year-old exhibited by Katie Gibson and Michaela Sanders of Eminence, Ky. The winning six-year-old & older cow, Mactalla Marker Molly, shown by Matt Mitchell of Lafollette, Tenn. received reserve grand champion honors.

Junior champion of the junior show was Maheufils Goldwyn Melinda-ET, exhibited by Austin Rademacher of Penfield, Ill. Reserve junior champion of junior show was Rokeyroad Aspen Dollars, exhibited by Anna Culbertson and Abbi Lea Goldenburg of Elgin, Minn.

Judge John Erbsen of Lanark, Ill. placed a total of 157 entries.

Jersey

The first and second place six-year-olds garnered top honors at this year’s Central National Jersey Show on Wednesday, Oct. 1. Alexvale Made Me Giggle exhibited by Avonlea Genetics and Cybil Fisher of Brighton, Ontario, Canada received grand champion honors. Reserve grand champion honors went to Hermitage Counciller Sheba exhibited by Todd Stiles and Waverly Farm of Clear Brook, Vt.

Intermediate champion honors went to Gillers Georgina, exhibited by Katie Gibson and Ky-Bluegrass Genetics of Eminence, Ky. Reserve intermediate champion was FH Cdjude Jazz, exhibited by Reichard, Thomas, Stevens and Day of Plymouth, Ind.

Junior champion of the show was Smart Gypsy Nate Gunner Glory, exhibited by Peggy Bennett, Fred Petzold and Purple Fever of Albion, N.Y. Partee at Budjon Luxury-ET was named reserve junior champion. She was exhibited by Ken and Kathy Elliott and Budjon Farms of Lomira.

A pair of Wisconsin four-year-old cows topped this year’s Central National Junior Jersey Show. Gil-Bar Sparkler Juliann exhibited by Wade Kessenich of DeForest, received grand champion of the junior show honors. Reserve grand champion of the junior show was awarded to Tm Julian Alexis, exhibited by Justin Riley of Gays Mills.

Hillacres Tora Tilly, exhibited by Sley and Brody Brand and Jordan Stookey of Dalhart, Texas was named junior champion of the junior show. Reserve junior champion of the junior show was Smart Jade Osu Rock Satin, exhibited by Austin and Nicolette Nauman of Sparta.

Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor banners were awarded to Ron and Christy Ratliff of Garnett, Kan. for the second consecutive year. Glenhome Counciller was named premier sire.

The show was judged by Ron Rider of Upton, Ky. Steve Bachelor of Angola, Indiana, served as the Associate Judge for the show.

Milking Shorthorn

Timothy Nix of Plato, Minn. exhibited Nix’s Lilly Pad, the grand champion at World Dairy Expo’s International Milking Shorthorn Show on Oct. 1. Reserve champion of the show was five-Year-Old Lands-Brook Christina, exhibited by Lands-Brook Farms of St. Olaf, Iowa.

Intermediate champion was Dan Sal Megadeth Zena, while reserve intermediate champion honors went to Hardcore MRB Letisha. Both were exhibited by Purple Fever Cattle Co., of Lowville, N.Y.

Junior champion honors went to Hal-Tex Alfair’s Alfonzo, also exhibited by Purple Fever Cattle Co., of Lowville, N.Y. Reserve junior champion was Sunshine Ace Dahlia, exhibited by Donnette Fisher and J.A. Elliott of New Enterprise, Pa.

For the third year in a row, Lands-Brook Christina-EXP-ET, owned by Jesse Landsgard of St. Olaf, Iowa was tapped as the grand champion of the International Junior Milking Shorthorn Show. Reserve Grand Champion honors went to Mapleton Vly AC Zeta, exhibited by Jimmy Hensley, Daleville, Ind.

Junior champion of the junior show was Spungold-R Logic Pledge-ET, exhibited by Sarah Weimer of Emlenton, Pa. Joy-El Logic Las Vegas was reserve junior champion of the junior show and was exhibited by Carlyn Crowl of Delta, Pa.

Hard Core Farms of New Enterprise, Pa. captured both the Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor Banners. Kuzmar Alfairs Othello was named Premier Sire.

Ted Smart of Anna, Ohio served as official judge for the show.

Red & White

The Grand International Red & White Show was lead by four-year-old Cherrie-Kreek Beulah-Red-ET, owned by Richard M. Green, Sr. of Middletown, Del. Reserve grand champion honors went to Dyks Kite Linda-Red-ET, exhibited by Todd Whittier of Sutton, Mass.

Intermediate champion was Elmbridge FM Loveable-Red, exhibited by Peter Tuytel, Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada. Reserve intermediate champion was Scenic-Edge Joyful-Red-ET, exhibited by Stephanie Aves of Poplar Grove, Ill.

Junior champion was Budjon-Nitzy Destiny Red-ET, exhibited by Milksource of Kaukauna. Reserve junior champion was Scenic-Edge Jellybean-Red, exhibited by Preder and Bohnhoff of Plymouth.

The winning senior two-year-old cow, Scenic-Edge Joyful-Red-ET exhibited by Stephanie Aves of Poplar Grove, Ill., took home grand champion honors at the Grand International Red & White Junior Show. The reserve grand champion banner was awarded to Henkeseen Ripple-Red-ET, the winning senior three-year-old, exhibited by Matt Henkes of Luana, Iowa.

Junior champion of the junior show was Kingsway E Red Flying Kite-Red, exhibited by Stephanie Aves, Poplar Grove, Ill. Reserve junior champion of the junior show was Scenic-Edge SS Lori-Red-ET, exhibited by Kate Probert & Bailee Whitehead, Juneau.

Elm Park Farms, Ltd., Sheboygan Falls, were awarded the Premier Breeder Banner. Premier Exhibitor was Greenlea - Richard Green, of Middletown, Del. Premier Sire was Pursuit September Storm.

Perry Phend of Osseo, Wis., judged the show.

Futurity

Champion of the Kingsmill Farm II International Futurity was the winning Holstein, Miss Macland Sept Juliet-ET, exhibited by Nathan and Adam Goldenberg and Milky Way Dairy of Mcgregor, Texas. Reserve futurity champion was WF Counciller Anakornikova-ET, the winning Jersey. She was exhibited by Mike and Sheryl Deaver of Edgerton.

Other winners included: Ayrshire, Royale-Divide Wilton Special, exhibited by McKenzie Stanford, Kushing, Okla.; Brown Swiss, Brothers Three Worthy OCS-ET, exhibited by Topp-View and Brothers Three of Botkins, Ohio; Guernsey, Villa Crest Wynn Riona, exhibited by Marlys Weaver, Goshen, Ind.; Milking Shorthorn, Mapleton Vly Ac Zeta, exhibited by Jimmy Hensley, Daleville, Ind.; and Red & White, Scientific SS Hottie-Red-ET, exhibited by Hottie Syndicate, Boonsboro, Md.
