Make It With Wool Competition Held

Thursday, September 11, 2008 6:37 AM CDT

Make It With Wool Winners

For many youth and adults, the Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival’s annual Make It With Wool contest is the equivalent to New York Fashion Week, but better.

The participants not only were able to make and create clothing from wool, they styled their ensembles on the catwalk as well. The show was coordinated by Sara Becker, Helen.

There were just over 40 participants competing for the top prize in six categories.

The contest organizer Carol Battenberg, Johnson Creek, said the judges had a hard time deciphering the winners because of the high quality construction of all the garments.

Winners in the Junior and Senior divisions will have the opportunity to participate in the National Make it With Wool Competition held in San Diego, Calif., in January.

Each participant received 2.5 yards of Pendleton Wool from the Wisconsin Sheep Breeders Cooperative and a pair of mini-scissors from Nancy’s Notions.

Pre-Teen

Auretta Wittkopf, Pewaukee, won the pre-teen division with her wool skit entry. She received new Babylock Denim Pro sewing machine.

Kellyanne Fitzgerald and Kristy Fitzgerald of Burlington placed second and third with their dress and skirt entries.

Other participants in the division included: Mariah Richardson, Dousman, skirt; Noah Sybesma, Delevan, shirt and pants; Haaken Schreifer, Mineral Point, vest; and Casie Wiese, Pewaukee, skirt.

Horeb, dress; Alexia Gregare, Milton, jacket and skirt; Elizabeth Harnack, Janesville, pants, top and coat; Courtney Lobdell, Darlington, cape and skirt; Chelsea Norquay, Monticello, two-piece outfit; Abby Sattler, Chilton; jacket, vest and gauchos; and Robyn Wittkopf, Pewaukee, one piece outfit.
