DATCP Advisory Council Members Named
The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has six standing advisory councils with members appointed by the DATCP Secretary and requiring approval of the DATCP Board.
At its June meeting, the DATCP board approved appointments/reappointments to those committees, changed the name of one committee, and created a 12-member Organic Advisory Council from the previous Ad Hoc Advisory Council.
Here’s a list of those advisory councils and the 2008 appointments approved by the board:
- Rural Energy Management Council (REMC) n Reappointed to three-year terms were: Mark Cook, director of the Rural Electric Power Services (REPS) Program at the Public Service Commission; Richard Hackner, GDS Associates; Vern Peterson, Wisconsin Public Service Corporation; and Paul Thompson, Bou-Matic Corporation.
- Aquaculture Industry Council n Reappointed to a three-year term was William West, Blue Iris Fish Farm, Black Creek. Two vacancies exist on this council.
- Agrichemical Technical Council (formerly called the Atrazine Technical Advisory Committee). Reappointed to three-year terms were: Carl Nachreiner, Agriliance/Co-op Country Partners; Richard Proost, UW-NPM Program; Dr. Ken Bradbury, Wisconsin Geological & Natural History Survey; Curt Mayer, Whitelaw, representing the pesticide industry; and Mike Carter, Wisconsin Potato & Vegetable Growers Association. (Carter has left WPVGA and so the industry will have a new but still unnamed representative.)
- Agricultural Chemical Cleanup Advisory Council n Reappointed for two-year terms were: Bruce Barganz, Frontier Cooperative, a certified crop advisor representing pesticide dealers and commercial applicators; Judy Fassbender, Dakota Intertek Corp., New Berlin representing environmental consultants; and Chuck Stanhope, Janesville, representing farmers.
- Organic Advisory Council n Initial appointments are Tricia Bross, Luna Circle Farm, Rio; Rich Lange, Lange Farms, Platteville; and Chris Malek, Malek Family Stewardship Farm, Stevens Point. Organic business representatives include Paulette Bradley, Wisconsin Organic Marketing Association; Jerry McGeorge, Organic Valley; Bob Wills, Cedar Grove Cheese. Other appointees include Harriet Behar, MOSES Organic Outreach, Gays Mills, as a nonprofit representative; Margaret Bert-Mittelstadt, Outpost Natural Foods Cooperative, as a consumer representative; Bonnie Wideman, Midwest Organic Services Association, as a certification representative; and David Engel, Rising Sun Jersey Farm; Christine Mason, Standard Process, Inc.; and Jim Munsch, Deer Run Farm, all at-large members. Members of this council will serve staggered terms of one, two or three years.
