Websites Offer Assistance For Agriculture
Recent heavy and widespread rains in Wisconsin left many families and farmers with questions about how to deal with flooded homes, business, farms and fields.
Answers to many flood-related questions can be found online at Cooperative Extension's Extension Responds website http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/issues/ExtensionResponds-Flood-August2007.html.
Extension Responds provides accurate, objective, research-based information developed in partnership by UW-System and UW-Extension faculty and Cooperative Extension agents to address current issues.
This coordinated effort helps county-based agents and educators respond promptly to local needs.
Archived Extension Responds materials are available at http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/issues/. Previous topics address drought, bovine tuberculosis, dairy herd health, BSE and biosecurity.
The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection has assembled a website at http://www.datcp.state.wi.us/flood2008/index.jsp with information including how to properly dispose of milk if flood waters or road closures are preventing milk pick up.
There's other information on carcass disposal and reporting crop losses.
Consumers can get information on how to protect themselves from untrustworthy contractors.
Also, people affected by flooding or power outages can learn how to protect their food supplies.
