Wisconsin Youth Compete at Spring Preview
Despite tornado warnings and stormy weather, Wisconsin youth competed in the Wisconsin Livestock Breeders Association Spring Preview Show held at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Jefferson.
Sheep results
Over 250 breeding and market sheep were exhibited by 90 youth. Jenna Langer, DeForest, topped the breeding show with her champion Southdown fall ewe lamb. Ethan Meudt, Delavan, exhibited the Champion commercial ewe that went on to be named Reserve Supreme Overall Champion.
Other breed champions included: Reserve Commercial ewe - Ryan Bingen, Allenton; Champion Columbia ewe, Jessica Taylor, Arlington; Reserve Columbia ewe n Morgan Zernicke, Wausau; Champion and Reserve Dorset ewes - Kori Beisbier, Stoughton; Champion Hampshire - Samantha Schultz; Reserve Champion Hampshire ewe n Jessica Alf, Edgerton; Champion Suffolk ewe - Deanna Zernicke, Bonduel; and Reserve Champion Southdown ewe - John Jones, Rio.
In the ram division of the breeding show, Courtney Lobdell, Darlington, exhibited the Supreme Overall Champion with her Southdown yearling. A Hampshire spring ram lamb exhibited by Jessica Alf, Edgerton was the Reserve Supreme Overall Champion.
Other breed champions: Champion Columbia ram - Morgan Zernicke, Wausau; Champion Dorset ram - Kori Beisbier, Stoughton; and Reserve Champion Hampshire Ram n Jordan Alf, Edgerton.
Winning the prospect lamb show (lambs weighing 100 pounds or less) was Courtney Elliot, Sparta. Her natural-colored lamb was named Grand Champion Overall. The champion crossbred exhibited by Amber Brown, Janesville, was selected as Reserve Grand Champion prospect lamb.

Sixty-one exhibitors showed 137 hogs at the Spring Preview Show. Topping the show was the Champion Yorkshire, the Champion Purebred Barrow Overall, exhibited by Travis Zweifel, Albany. Kyle Henningfeld, Watertown, drove the Champion Crossbred barrow selected as the Reserve Supreme Champion Hog.
