Badger Kick-Off Classic Sets Record
Despite the wintery forecast for most of Wisconsin and the Midwest last weekend, the Badger Kick-Off Classic prospect steer and heifer show, held at Wisconsin State Fair Park set a new entry record.
In its 13th year, the show coordinated by the UW-Madison Saddle & Sirloin Club, had over 100 more entries than last year. Over 10 different states were represented in the 694 total entries.
Market animals
Steve Reimer, Chamberlain, S.D. sorted through the 386 animals in the competitive market division.
Winning top honors as Overall Champion Market Animal and a $500 award was the crossbred exhibited by Keaton Lundquist from Prescott, Iowa.
Following the crossbred in top five was Reserve Overall Champion Market Animal n a Chianina, exhibited by Tyler Lain, Corydon, Iowa; third overall - the reserve crossbred exhibited by Colton Paul, Laurel, Iowa; fourth overall n market heifer exhibited by Kia Knutson, Ridgeway, Iowa; fifth overall n Maine-Anjou exhibited by Tyler Frasher, Laurel, Iowa.

Jaylyne Russel’s Low Percentage Maine Heifer was top in a field of 308 judged by Jim Pipkin, Republic, Mo. Russel walked away with the Overall Champion Heifer and $500.
Following Russel was Overall Reserve Champion Heifer n a Commercial exhibited by Tyler Trihus, Blooming Praire, Minn.; third overall n an Angus exhibited by Kaley Bockhop, Belmont; fourth Overall n the reserve Commercial exhibited by Matt Royoter, Duncombe, Iowa; fifth overall n a Shorthorn exhibited by Brock May, Mineral Point.
