Lippert, Wendorf Honored as Outstanding Junior Holstein Boy, Girl

The Wisconsin Junior Holstein annual convention was held this past weekend, Jan. 5-7 at the Holiday Inn in Fond du Lac.
This event, hosted by Dodge County, was filled with numerous activities including everything from dairy bowl and dairy jeopardy to craft and speaking contests. Among the activities at the convention included the highlight of the event, the naming of the 2006 Outstanding Holstein Boy and Girl, at the awards banquet Saturday evening.
Paul Lippert and Chrissy Wendorf were honored with this prestigious award. They will represent Wisconsin by vying for the honor of being named National DJM Finalists at the national convention in Knoxville, Tenn. Linda Behling and Anne Dorshorst were also chosen to represent Wisconsin as Distinguished Junior Members.
Outstanding Holstein Boy
Paul Lippert, the 18-year-old son of Matthew Lippert and Martha Lippert of Pittsville, was surprised when his name was called as the 2006 Wisconsin Holstein Outstanding Boy.
Lippert is involved on his home farm, Grass Ridge Farm LLC, a 400-cow dairy in rural Pittsville. Lippert has one younger brother, Carl.
He owns 15 cows on his family operation. His main role on the farm includes milking and mating most of the cows. He has been very active in 4-H, FFA and Jr. Holstein activities.
Lippert will be serving as one of the newly elected Junior Activities Committee representative for the northwest district. He has been involved with dairy bowl for eight years and is the current president of his county association. He helped run the convention, which his county hosted this past year. He is also a past YMR and DJM recipient. In addition, he has shown at county, district and state levels.
In 4-H, he has been involved with dairy judging and showing. He also was recognized as a Key Award winner and served as president this past year. He was a member of the 2006 Wisconsin senior 4-H dairy bowl team, which attended nationals at NAILE.
Lippert has also been active in the Pittsville FFA, in which he served as vice president for two years. He participated in dairy evaluation and has also gone to state for discussion meets. Last year, he placed first in the state dairy evaluation, advancing him to nationals where he placed fifth.
Lippert is a freshman at UW Marshfield/Wood County pursuing a dairy science degree. He plans to attend UW-Madison or UW-River Falls in the next couple of years. Eventually, he would like to return to his family farm.
"I would like to stay in the dairy industry, probably farm, and get more into genetics and marketing," he says.
Outstanding Holstein Girl
Ever since Chrissy Wendorf has been a member of the Junior Holstein Association, she has longed to become an Outstanding Holstein Girl.
"It's been a goal since I was little and came to my first convention," she says. "Being able to receive the honor, I feel really privileged and lucky."
Wendorf is the 20-year-old daughter of Kent and Anna Wendorf, of Viroqua. She has one brother, Brian and one sister, Katie.
She grew up on a 40-cow registered Holstein farm and has been actively involved with her county Junior Holstein Association for 10 years, competing in dairy quiz bowl and dairy judging. She also served as a member of the Junior Activities Committee for the southwest district for the past two years, and served as chair of the committee this past year. At this year's convention her dairy bowl team placed first in the senior division, advancing them to compete at the national convention. Other junior Holstein events that she has participated in include the speaking contest, dairy jeopardy, and she has also been recognized as a progressive breeder, trip award winner and YMR award recipient.
Wendorf is currently a junior at UW-Madison majoring in dairy science and agricultural journalism with an international emphasis. On campus, she is active in the Badger Dairy Club, Association of Women in Agriculture, National Agri-Marketing Association where she serves as secretary, and she is a member of the dairy judging team. This past year, she was recognized as a WALSAA Outstanding Sophomore.
Wendorf has been very active and successful in dairy judging. She judged through 4-H for nine years, placing third overall and in the top 10 for reasons at the state competition her first year as a senior. Her team traveled to compete at Louisville where they placed first in reasons. As a UW-Madison dairy judging team member, she has placed first high individual at the Accelerated Genetics contest in Viroqua and also at the All-American contest in Harrisburg, Pa.
This past summer, she interned as the dairy youth UW-Extension summer program assistant.
In the future, she plans to get a job in the dairy industry where she can utilize her Spanish speaking skills. She would like to work for either an AI company, translate for a large dairy or work with dairy promotions.

Linda Behling
Linda Behling resides on a heifer raising and cash crop farm in Fox Lake with her parents Jim and Diane. She has an older sister, Kari and a younger brother, Frank. Behling is a junior at UW-Madison, where she is majoring in dairy science. On campus, she is involved with Badger Dairy Club as secretary and is selections chair for the 13th annual Badger Invitational. She also is active in Sigma Alpha as treasurer, the Association of Women in Agriculture, a CALS Ambassador and on the UW-Madison Dairy Judging Team. Additionally, she owns over 20 animals and enjoys exhibiting cattle on all levels and competing in dairy judging and dairy bowl.
Anne Dorshorst
Anne Dorshorst is the 20-year-old daughter of Charles and Donna Dorshorst of Junction City. She and her four older brothers are actively involved in Dorsland Farms, a 200-acre registered Holstein dairy. Dorshorst is a sophomore at UW-Madison majoring in dairy science and bacteriology. She is a member of the Badger Dairy Club, Association of Women in Agriculture, Wood County Junior Holstein Association, and the Wisconsin Junior Holstein Association where she is currently serving as a northeast district JAC, National Jr. Holstein Association and Bethany Lutheran Church. During the summer, she enjoys showing cattle with her family at local, state, and national shows. She also teaches Vacation Bible School and works as a lifeguard and swim instructor for Lincoln High School Summer Swim program. After completion of her bachelor's degree, she hopes to attend either medical school through the UW-Madison Wisconsin Academy of Rural Medicine or pursue medical research through a graduate school program.
Amber Elliott
Amber Elliott, 19-years-old is from Marshall and lives on 120-acre dairy farm with her parents, Ken and Kathy Elliott and her sister Laura. She is currently a sophomore at UW-River Falls, majoring in marketing communications with an ag emphasis and ag business. She has held various offices in 4-H and FFA. Elliott has served as captain for the Dane County Holstein junior dairy bowl team. She is also active in the Dane County scrapbook committee. In addition, she has placed in the state dairy jeopardy each year, winning high individual in 2006. She placed sixth overall in the National Dairy Jeopardy Contest. She has exhibited at World Dairy Expo, NAILE, state fair, district show, Stoughton and Dane County Fairs. She has won many showmanship awards, including the third overall Supreme Champion Showman at the 2006 Junior State Fair. Elliott is currently serving as the Dane County Jr. Holstein Association president.
Kelsi Hendrickson
Kelsi Hendrickson is the 20-year-old daughter of Jeff and Kate Hendrickson of Belleville. She lives on a 212-acre dairy farm where they have 65 registered Holsteins. Hendrickson has one older brother Brandon, two younger brothers Trent and Brooks, and one younger sister Breinne. Hendrickson is currently a junior at the UW-Madison, majoring in dairy science and agricultural journalism with a business emphasis. She is active in Badger Dairy Club, Association of Women in Agriculture, National Agri-Marketing Association and is on the UW-Madison Dairy Judging Team. She is an active member of the Junior Holsteins where she enjoys participating in dairy bowl and showing dairy cattle.
Danyel Hosto
Danyel Hosto is the 19-year-old daughter of Kelley and Ruth Hosto and has an older sister, Nicole. Together, they farm Hosto Registered Holsteins, a 60-cow herd outside of Juda. Hosto is a sophomore at UW-Madison where she is majoring in dairy science and life science communications. On campus, she is involved in the Association of Women in Agriculture as membership coordinator, Badger Dairy Club, Saddle and Sirloin, and the UW-Madison Dairy Judging Team. This past year, Hosto was a member of the state winning dairy bowl team that took fifth at nationals, top Holstein Showman at the Wisconsin State Fair, and received the Adam Preder Memorial Scholarship.
Maureen Lee
Maureen Lee, 17, of Johnson Creek is the daughter of Grant and Katie DeBruin and Terry Lee. Lee is a senior at Fort Atkinson High School and has a sister Kelly and a brother Wyatt. She is a 2006 National Younger Distinguished Junior Member Award winner and won the Judi Collinsworth Award at the Midwest Fall National in 2006. She has been a 12 and under winner and a YMR recipient as well as an eight-time Wisconsin Junior Progressive Breeder award winner. She has competed nationally in dairy jeopardy. She has won numerous awards in FFA, including competing at the Eastern National FFA Judging contest in Harrisburg this past fall after placing third high individual overall at the state FFA judging contest. In 2006, Lee's heifers won three times in national show competition. Lee owns seven Holsteins and three Brown Swiss.
Craig Pagenkopf
Craig Pagenkopf is the 20-year-old son of Daniel and Nancy Pagenkopf, residing at Paradise-D Holsteins in Lancaster. Currently a sophomore at UW-Platteville, he is majoring in animal science with a dairy emphasis. He is also actively involved in the Pioneer Dairy Club and the Farmhouse Fraternity. Pagenkopf works part-time on the family's 317-acre family dairy farm with his parents, brother, Scott and his sister, Andrea. He is currently the president of the Grant County Jr. Holsteins and enjoys showing his cattle at local, county and state fairs and competing in dairy judging contests.
Benjamin Sarbacker
Ben Sarbacker, 18 is the son of Tom and Vicki Sarbacker, Verona. He has three brothers, Nick, Andy, and Joe and one sister, Elizabeth. Sarbacker and his family farm Fischerdale Holsteins in Paoli. Sarbacker is a senior at Verona High School. He is involved in National Honor Society, FFA and was the 2006 WIAA State Wrestling Champion at 160 pounds. Sarbacker is a member of St. Williams Catholic Church, and is active in the Paoli 4-H Fireballs where he served as president for the past two years. He is the treasurer for the Dane County Junior Holstein Association. Sarbacker is very involved in the family farm and also enjoys showing, dairy judging and dairy bowl.
Clayton Wohlk
Clayton Wohlk is the 19-year-old son of Glen and Susan Wohlk of Almena. Wohlk has a younger sister and brother. He lives on his family farm were they milk 50 registered Holstein cows with several red and whites. Wohlk has been a member of the Barron County, Wisconsin, and National Holstein Association since 1996. He is now on the Junior Activities Committee serving the Northwest District. Wohlk is a sophomore at UW-Madison studying dairy science where he is involved with the Badger Dairy Club as well as the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. He plans to be a dairy farmer upon graduation.
